10% of their brains

D o people use 10% of their brains ? The 10% number is a myth. People actually use all parts of their brain at all times (even when sleeping), although at any given moment, we may be be using certain parts of the brain more than others.

Grief Display

Is it normal for my gf to cry at my mom's burial whilst I am not crying ? Some people cry at the drop of a hat, while others have great difficulty crying - men who have been told repeatedly that big boys don't cry may especially have trouble crying in public. Sometimes, inability to cry may even be a sign of depression. Lack of tears certainly doesn't mean that you didn't love your mother - it's possible that in a private moment, the death of your mother will finally hit you, and you will be able to shed some tears.

Tough Physics

Physics is so tough I'm thinking of dropping the whole school stuff, what do I do? I don't want want to disappoint family cuz of failure ! Unless you are planning to be a physicist, you only have to take one or two years of physics at most, and never again for the rest of your life. Dropping out of school will certainly affect the rest of your life. Tell everyone you desperately need help with physics and get as much help as you can - from family, friends, teachers, tutors. With much effort, you will certainly be able to scrape through. In the words of Muhammad Ali, “Don’t quit. Suffer now and live the rest of your life as a champion."

Good idea

Language is like soil. However rich, it is subject to erosion, and its fertility is constantly threatened by uses that exhaust its vitality. It needs constant re-invigoration if it is not to become arid and sterile.

Why You Feel So Good in Nature

You surrender comfort and control. ... Nature  reminds you of death so you can appreciate your life and its  natural  cycles. ...As the noise of our crazy culture fades, your mind calms and you experience silence and stillness. ...You behold the beauty of  nature . ...You remember who you truly are. ...You experience the Divine.

beauty of nature

You behold the beauty of nature. How is such majesty possible? The strength of that mountain, standing there for all those years! The miracle of this single flower, infused with sunlight. The revelation of a tree, rooted deep in the earth, stretching to the sky, and bearing silent witness to the world around it! You feel awe and joy and are whole again. 3. You remember that you are connected to all living things. You feel that you belong to this Earth. That you are part of the community of nature. You are made of the same substance, and that you are no better—and no worse—than that bird, that tree, that other human walking up the trail. 2. You remember who you truly are. You feel comfortable in your own skin, you experience your own quiet peace and strength, you sense the inner you that is the true you. The mask you present to the outer world is irrelevant for a time, and put in its proper place. 1. You experience the Divine. Whether you call it God,  Earth Mother ,...

Time slows down

Urgency, deadlines and “clock time," as measured by hours, minutes and seconds, melt away. Clocks teach us to abandon the natural rhythms of our bodies and the Earth and conform to a schedule rooted in our economic system. That creates a lot of stress. On the flip side, nature models a healthier pace of life. Trees and plants grow s – l – o – w – l – y. Deer graze calmly. Rabbits and squirrels scamper about, but that is their natural pace. Everyone is moving according to their natural rhythm, and you begin to do the same. Nature models “just enough" sustainability. Our culture teaches us that we never have enough. We strive to make more money, buy more things, eat more delicious food. Mainstream culture also encourages us not to think about how this over-consumption affects others, such as the sweatshop laborers who make our clothes, or the people and animals who depend on a climate in balance. In contrast, eco systems embody harmony and balance. Trees grow to a he...

Appreciate your life

Nature reminds you of death so you can appreciate your life and its natural cycles. In the U.S., we do everything we can to avoid the knowledge that we, and everyone we love, are going to die. In nature, you encounter dead trees all the time. And, behold!—they're nursing young plants to life. You walk through a burn area and see a profusion of wildflowers thriving in the newly enriched soil. You might even see animal skulls and bones. When we come face to face with death, we value our own life more, the present moment more, and experience surges of joy to be alive. Many cancer survivors know this truth well from a harsh encounter with death. Nature eases us into this reality.

Feel So Good in Nature

Why You Feel So Good in Nature Earth, rivers, mountains and trees! Silent canyons, babbling creeks and growing green gardens! If you  spend time in nature , you've probably noticed that you feel happier out there than in here. But why? One of the better known theories, the “biophilia hypothesis," suggests that we love nature because we evolved in it. We  need it for our psychological well-being because it's in our DNA. This theory rings true to me. But it's so broad, it also leaves me grasping for more. What is it about nature and our relationship to it, that brings us so much joy? I've been asking this question for some years now. I've studied Ecopsychology, wilderness therapy and nature-based therapy. In my private psychotherapy practice, I work with clients in nature and bear witness to their experiences. And personally, I spend as much time as I can in nature. Putting all of this together, I've developed my own ideas about why nature makes us fe...

Teeny Relationships

Is it OK for parents to discourage relationships for teenagers ? Teenagers fall in love, and if two teens fall in love with each other, it's cruel to forbid them from being in a relationship. It's ok to discourage relationships, but outright banning relationships usually is not the best course of action, and may breed rebellion and resentment. Instead of banning relationships altogether, allow relationships, but with restrictions (curfew, keep grades up, etc). Of course, it's fine to ban relationships if the teenager is clearly very irresponsible, or the boyfriend/girlfriend is an extremely bad influence, but if the teenager is reasonably mature and responsible, give love a chance!

Connected Dad

Is it alright to trouble my father to get me a job? He has connections. We don't have a relationship with him. Is your father a decent man, with whom it is safe to get in touch? If so, it's fine to trouble him, but don't feel disappointed if your father says no, or doesn't seem like he is trying very hard to get you a job. After all, a relationship cannot grow overnight. Then again, you may be pleasantly surprised - you won't know until you try!

Baby Daddy Dumped Me

Dating again after your baby daddy dumps you ! Dating with a child can be challenging, but that certainly doesn't mean you need to stay single! Put your child first, and only date the kind of men who you can trust around your child - if you're not sure if you can trust him yet, don't bring him into the family. If your child is older, make sure you don't introduce one man after another in short succession - your child may start adjusting and feeling attached, just to be disappointed. Be aware of your child's feelings - they may not always be positive - and try your best to make sure the child feels loved and secure.

Circumcised STD med

Can you get gonorrhea when you're circumcised ? Yes, circumcision does not affect the transmission of gonorrhea. So, you are just as likely to get gonorrhea, circumcised or not. Circumcision does reduce the chance of HIV infection, but it's not foolproof - you can still get HIV when circumcised, it's just less likely.

Poor self-esteem

I was so excited since a month ago about cutting my hair, but just two comments from my parents stopped me from doing it and I got really mad at myself. Does this mean I was actually unsure, or just that I have a poor self-esteem ? Didi thinks that there is no reason to get mad at yourself - it's perfectly normal for parents to have some influence over their kids, even adult children! Parental influence is fine, as long as the influence is out of love, not fear of rejection. If you find that you are too easily swayed by the opinion of others, practice becoming independent by slowly making more and more decisions for yourself - but also choose your fights wisely!

South Arabian of Sheba kingdom

A Sabaean priestess, who intercedes with the sun goddess on behalf of the donor, probably first century Sheba south Arabian , Hebre was South Arabian speaking kingdom whose location is unknown. It is mentioned in the Hebrew Bible (Old Testament) and the Quran. Sheba features in  Jewish Muslim and Christian, particularly  Ethiopian Christian, traditions. It was the home of the biblical "Queen of Sheba", who is left unnamed in the Bible, but receives the names Makeda in Ethiopian and Bilqīs in Arabic tradition. The predominant scholarly view is that the biblical narrative about the kingdom of Sheba was based on the ancient civilization of Saba in South Arabia * in contradiction to several local traditions from different countries. Israel Finkelstein and Neil Asher Silbermanwrite that "the Sabaean kingdom began to flourish only from the eighth century BCE onward" and that the story of Solomon and Sheba is "an anachronistic seventh-century set piece ...

Yemen loss health

Despite the significant progress Yemen has made to expand and improve its health care system over the past decade, the system remains severely underdeveloped. *Total expenditures on health care in 2002 constituted 3.7 percent of gross domestic product.[1] In that same year, the per capita expenditure for health care was very low, as compared with other Middle Eastern countries—US$58 according to United Nations statistics and US$23 according to the World Health Organization. *According to the World Bank, the number of doctors in Yemen rose by an average of more than 7 percent between 1995 and 2000, but as of 2004 there were still only three doctors per 10,000 persons. *In 2003 Yemen had only 0.6 hospital beds available per 1,000 persons.[1] Health care services are particularly scarce in rural areas. Only 25 percent of rural areas are covered by health services, as compared with 80 percent of urban areas. Emergency services, such as ambulance service and blood banks, are non-...

Zambezi River

TONGABEZI ZAMBIA A charming lodge on the Zambezi River The roots of this lodge run deep beneath the banks of the great Zambezi River, 15km upstream from the roar of the Victoria Falls. Almost 28 years since it opened, Tongabezi has grown organically, unhindered by corporate conventions. Its owners, Ben and Vanessa Parker, have lived and breathed this stretch of river since they married on nearby Sindabezi island in 1994. Their home is Tangala, a warm, thatched family house adjacent to the lodge, and Vanessa runs neighbouring Tongabezi Trust School. Right from the start, the couple set out to employ locals and empower them in pivotal roles. The result is one of the happiest places to stay in all of Africa. There are no straight lines at Tongabezi, or at its African-fairy-tale sister camp on Sindabezi island. The original five waterfront cottages are curvaceous beauties, and the more substantial houses are built freeform, incorporating gnarly trees along the way. Most were entire...

The Wonderful Hotel Amsterdam Pulitzer Amsterdam

Address: Pulitzer Amsterdam, Prinsengracht 323, Amsterdam, Netherlands, PULITZER AMSTERDAM AMSTERDAM A cosy, kooky hotel in the Netherlands' coolest city Percolating its way through 25 historical buildings – from 17th-century canal-side mansions to artisans’ workshops – this place has soaked up 400 years of stories from previous residents including grand families, a musician and a friend of Rembrandt’s. Inside, a fresh, cheeky re-imagining by Jacu Strauss (Barbecoa and the Mondrian London) weaves in these different elements with smart new Dutch design, and a great deal of quirky charm. Charred furniture by Maarten Baas holds its own alongside voluminous armchairs and gilt-framed paintings against an Old Masters’ palette of deep blues, plums and rich greens. It is a delightful hotchpotch of buildings, with crooked stairways leading around unexpected corners and through a warren of passages littered with bizarre market finds. Bedrooms come in all shapes and sizes, but here t...

Who is Kahlil Gibran

Gibran was born in the town of Bsharri[7] in the Mount Lebanon Mutasarrifate, Ottoman Empire (modern-day Lebanon), to Khalil Gibran and Kamila Gibran (Rahmeh). As a young man Gibran emigrated with his family to the United States, where he studied art and began his literary career, writing in both English and Arabic. In the Arab world, Gibran is regarded as a literary and political rebel. His romantic style was at the heart of a renaissance in modern Arabic literature, especially prose poetry, breaking away from the classical school. In Lebanon, he is still celebrated as a literary hero.[8] A member of the New York Pen League, he is chiefly known in the English-speaking world for his 1923 book The Prophet, an early example of inspirational fiction including a series of philosophical essays written in poetic English prose. The book sold well despite a cool critical reception, gaining popularity in the 1930s and again especially in the 1960s counterculture.[8][9] Gibran is the third-...

If we consider Yemen's population as 100: 80 people are in need of vital aids 58 people have no access to healthy water 52 people have no access to hygiene facilities 11 people suffer from severe malnutrition

The resources of Yemen's War

Stop the Starvation The humanitarian disaster in Yemen is far more horrifying than can be imagined. Severe siege on Yemen by the barbaric and atrocious Saudi regime has made it very difficult and restricted for humanitarian aids to reach Yemen. The "Yemen not alone" campaign comprises of young activists from India, Italy, Britain, Yemen, etc. and aims to help Yemeni children suffering from early stages of malnutrition.
